So maybe it is still about dogs...

Today I received the following text messages from my husband (though not during class since I don't leave my cell phone out during class):

1. Going to as (as=animal shelter)
2. How much do you love me?
3. I hope a lot.

I called and called and called after reading these messages at about 4:30 this afternoon. I knew, I just KNEW that my rascal of a husband had gone out and adopted another dog. We've been watching the news reports about all of the dogs in Montgomery County and our hearts just go out to them, especially Johnny's heart. I just picture our sweet puppies sitting there just waiting to die and it's almost enough to make me go down there and get one...almost. With a baby on the way and Johnny's schedule so full, I just don't think having a 4th dog is really the best endeavor for us right now. Johnny sees it differently.

So where was my sweet, wonderful husband on his lunch hour today? At the Brazos Valley Animal Shelter falling in love with another puppy. Aargh! According to our conversation this afternoon, he has one "picked out." Can you believe it? He wants me to go see it! What am I supposed to do, go see the dog and then just turn my back on the helpless puppy that my wonderful husband has undoubtedly bonded with already (he's like mush in their hands)? Apparently that's okay with him...just as long as I "give her a chance."

I have such mixed emotions about this. Honestly, I really don't think adding another dog would be much different. We already have 3, what's one more? My concern is for our growing family. Johnny travels during the rugby season and by March and April when they take their long trips, I will be 6-7 months pregnant. I'm not sure I can even handle the 3 dogs we have at that point. I am also really worried that the Hormone Monster and the Energy Zapper will keep me from being able to enjoy a new puppy right now, and that's just not fair to the dog. What a wonderful experience, coming home to an 8 weeks pregnant woman!!!

With that said, I told him I'd think about it. Want to know the truth? I'll probably cave. I'm such a softy when it comes to my husband. I just see how much he loves his dogs and I have to think that he will love our baby that much, too, and then Weepy Wanda comes out and, well, we'll probably be getting another damned dog!
