Our Little Gas Factory

Poor Jack...the last couple of days/nights have been pretty rough for him (and for Momma, too). I think he must have a touch of colic because what used to be his endearing gassiness has become quite the painful condition at times for the little man. Last night after going through our newly established bedtime rituals (warm bath, jammies, book, swaddle, and bottle with rocking) he just screamed for about 45 minutes straight. I said it was just a touch, but it was no less agonizing to hear him scream and know that there was not a darned thing I could do that I hadn't already done. We tried mylicon (2 doses finally did it), the "colic hold," putting him on my knees, his bouncy seat, swaddling, etc., etc. Finally, I think the poor thing got so tired that he just conked out. Once he got relaxed his tummy let loose and out the gas came. So now I'm being a little more liberal with the mylicon.

On the positive side, he did sleep for his longest stretch at night yet...3.5 hours! Unfortunately, I was still a bit of a nervous wreck from his fit, so I probably didn't sleep as well as I could have. Today he started the new game of not wanting to be put down when he is awake, which is, of course, a longer stretch of the day since he slept better last night. Needless to say, Mommy is just a tiny bit frazzled at this point. They say this peaks at 6 weeks...only 2.5 weeks to go then, right? Ahhh, the joys of parenthood!
