If you follow my facebook photos, this post is old news, so you can just ignore it. If not, let me show you some of the projects I've been working on for Baby Cate's room! I'm so excited and somewhat proud that I managed to accomplish these things and they actually turned out looking nice! I am NOT a crafty person by nature, so doing this has truly been a labor of love. Mainly, I lack the patience to do a really good job. I find myself being anxious to continue a project before the paint is dry or the glue is set. I end up working on 3 things at once just to keep myself from getting frustrated and messing something up. So...here are some examples of my handiwork.
This is a dresser that I bought for a great deal from my friend Kelly. It was painted black and looked really cool, but wouldn't work in the room. I painted it white (2 coats over two nights) and then distressed it with sandpaper and steel wool (another night), then Johnny was nice enough to seal it with a polyurethane spray and spray paint the hardware white. Jack and I roughed up the hardware on the deck...he was really good at throwing the pieces down on the deck! Voila...the finished product!

This ribbon mobile is something I saw online and thought would look really cool in a shabby chic room. I redid it a couple of times to get it to look just right and I'm still getting used to it. I used a needlepoint hoop, lots of ribbon, some craft glue, a flower garland, and some hot glue to complete it. It looks pretty with the fan blowing the ribbons around.
I think these letter plaques are going to be my favorite! A few months ago a teacher at school posted these hexagonal frames for super cheap (I think they were maybe $4). I love them, so I bought them and then decided to use them for Cate's name (perfect number, you know?). I made cardboard templates from a printer paper box, covered them with really cool scrapbook paper I found from Hobby Lobby, then spray painted wood letters white. My next step will be to secure the cardboard backing and cover the letters with something (probably buttons) to dress them up. I will either lean them on the chair rail in the room or hang them from the wall with satin ribbon. Either way, I think they're going to be great!

Finally, I found this lamp when Tiffany and I went to Round Top. It was awesome (I still owe you some $$ T, but I'm also willing to let you have it for your shabby chic old lady house with Stutts ;). I loved the lamp but the shade was just a little too shabby. Kelly told me that the type of shade on the lamp was tough to find, so I decided to make this one pretty. I bought a quilting stack with fabric that matched the room, cut it into strips, and then modge podged it wrong side out (for a faded effect) onto the shade. It is SO pretty! Super excited about this, too!

That's it...so far. I still have lots of ideas and am working on finishing up the things I have already started. I'll post more when I get a few more things done.
